A new South African-manufactured mask featuring Israeli copper antivirus technologies has been rolled out by the Embassy of Israel in South Africa and South Africa Friends of Israel (SAFI) to vulnerable communities nationwide.
The masks are produced using copper-infused fabric that has the ability to self-sanitise within minutes of viral contact and will assist South Africans with their fight against Covid.
As part of this nationwide project, the Embassy of Israel in South Africa donated copper embedded masks to the El Dabar City Church in Ga-Rankuwa, Tshwane. The church is part of the wider SAFI network, and Christian leaders gathered to greet Israel’s Chargé d’affaires, Hila Rose Fridman, where they reiterated their connection with and support for the State of Israel.
Pastor Tehillah-James Mokgola, overseer at El-Dabar City Church said: “We at El-Dabar City Church and church leadership around our city want to thank the Israel Embassy for considering our community and city.” In response, Rose Fridman said: “Israel prides itself on Tikkun Olam (Hebrew phrase meaning ‘world repair’) and continues to value the friendship of Christians across South Africa.”
Copper has been a proven and effective killer of diseases such as MRSA, E.coli, and Influenza. When bacteria and viruses come into contact with copper, the metal absorbs electrons from the bacteria resulting in unstable molecules that essentially destroy the virus. In addition, due to the masks’ capacity to self-sanitise, people would be able to re-use them dozens of times rather than having to wash their masks daily, or worse, discarding them after one usage, resulting in billions of masks ending up in landfills.
