The Devoted Citizen Movement (DCM), a grassroots organisation committed to promoting civic engagement and democratic values, is proud to announce its participation as first-time election observers in the upcoming South African elections.

The movement, founded by Reverend Chris Mathebula, has identified its main focus during this election as ensuring a free and fair election in which the electorate is informed and educated on the voting process.

In the build up to the elections, the DCM has taken a significant step forward by being actively involved in voter education. By monitoring the electoral process and advocating for fairness and integrity, the movement seeks to enhance public trust and confidence in South Africa’s electoral system.

Rev Mathebula, stated: “South Africa has one of the most revered democracies in the world and it is paramount for us to uphold and protect it at all costs. By actively participating as first-time election observers, we aim to highlight the importance of ensuring transparent and inclusive electoral processes for the betterment of our society.”

He said South Africa has made significant strides in its democratic journey since achieving independence. However, the country continues to face various challenges such as socioeconomic disparities, crime and corruption. It is within this context that the DCM recognises the critical role elections play in shaping the future of the nation.

Through its election observation efforts, the DCM aims to promote accountability, transparency, and fairness. By closely monitoring the electoral proceedings, the movement will assess the adherence to electoral laws, the conduct of political parties, and the overall fairness of the electoral environment. The movement will also actively engage with relevant stakeholders to address any concerns or issues that may arise during the electoral process.

“The Devoted Citizen Movement invites all citizens, civil society organisations, and stakeholders to join hands in ensuring that the upcoming South African elections are conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner. By actively participating in the democratic process, citizens can contribute to building a stronger and more inclusive South Africa for future generations,” said Mathebula.

South Africans will be going to the polls on the 30th year anniversary of attaining freedom in 1994. With an increased number of parties registered with the Independent Electoral Committee (IEC) for this election, voters are spoilt for choice. It is now in the hands of the electorate to exercise their democratic right to vote and elect the party of their choice into power.
